We are offering two tracks:
Culinary Arts & Events and Marketing & Hospitality Management.
The Culinary Arts and Events Intern will assist the head chef with dinner service, as well as with any special events that the Highland Inn or Highland Center host. The Marketing and Hospitality Intern will create a marketing plan for the Highland Center’s Conference and Retreat space, as well as help with day-to-day management and marketing of the Highland Inn.
Both interns will be based with the Highland Inn and the newly renovated Highland Conference & Retreat Center. You will gain experience preparing meals for visitors and local patrons, while running the daily inn operations.
You will spend part of each week working with the Highland Inn’s farm to table restaurant, and help market both the Inn and the Conference and Retreat space. In addition, there will be a variety of workshops and lectures based around local agriculture, restaurant management, and strengthening our hospitality economy. As this is a fairly new program, you will have plenty of freedom to personalize your experience.
This is a ten-week internship for credit, running from May 30, 2017 through August 6, 2017, and culminating with our annual “Taste of Highland” fundraising dinner; housing will be provided.
- Junior or Senior status in a culinary or hospitality management program
- Some coursework in Culinary Arts, Restaurant Management, Agriculture, Food Science, or other related field
- Experience working in a commercial kitchen, inn, or hotel
- Willingness and desire to live and work in a rural community
- Ability to do manual labor and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Marketing experience a plus
