Business Incubation

The Highland Center accelerates the successful development of small businesses and non-profits through support services, resources, affordable space and networking opportunities.

Business Counseling: Professional business counselors through SCORE and the Small Business Development Center are available at The Highland Center each month.  Counseling is free and confidential.  Clients learn to write a business plan, expand their marketing efforts and handle financial accounting.  The Highland Center staff is also available for technical assistance to businesses.

Business Resource Center: The Center has office equipment available for public use and maintains a collection of books, videos and software focused on business planning and community development.

Tenants: Availability of quality, low-cost space is often a barrier to startup businesses and non-profits, especially in rural areas where rental space is limited.  The Highland Center is equipped with high-speed internet and has shared office equipment available to tenants, including a copier, laminator, color printer, fax machine and more.  The Center also has a fully inspected commercial kitchen and walk-in freezer for bakers, caterers and other food-based businesses.  Visit our Tenants Page to learn more.

Microfinance: The Highland Center has partnered with Staunton Creative Community Fund to offer $1,000 to $50,000 loans for start-up and expanding small businesses.  Download the Loan Application, or contact bettymitchell@htcnet.org to learn more.
