The Highland Center is spearheading the development of a community park in the Town of Monterey. The property is about 6 1/2 acres along Route 220 on the southern end of town, across from the Highland Medical Center. In late 2012, the Center formed a committee, Community Park Advisory Committee (CPAC), and began discuss plans for the park. We have worked on cataloging the assets of the property, including identifying native plant and bird species, observing the habitat types, and locating the boundaries of the Confederate Cemetery on the site. While much of the work has been ongoing behind the scenes, the clearing of the site of invasive species has been carried out and you can now see the cleared site. In 2017 more work will begin that will bring all the planning to fruition. Check back for new information as we develop this newest community asset!
Below is the schematic plan for development.
